ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE
2035. As Earth’s climate continues to deteriorate, a state of panic has eroded all sense of normalcy on the international stage. The limits and warnings set by the Paris Agreement have long since been surpassed, and countries fail to adjust to the new world climate as sea levels rise and agricultural production plummets. Extreme weather crises are constant, and governments across the world are struggling to respond to a disaster they cannot contain.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has convened an emergency summit to address this crisis and reassess global agendas. The global climate tipping point has come, and hanging in the balance is the state of the world.
With the lack of commitment to previous international agreements, countries have proven that new perspectives and compromises are needed.
The decisions made at this summit will shape not just the trajectory of international climate policy, but the future of Earth itself.

Olivia Locandro is a sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill from New Brunswick, New Jersey. She’s an Environmental Science and Political Science major, and started MUN in 10th grade. When she’s not in committee, she’s reading, watching soccer, or with friends. She can’t wait to have a fantastic committee!

Shreya Bhattacharya is a sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill from Syracuse, NY. She’s a Public Policy and Global Studies major on the pre-Law track and started MUN in 9th grade. Outside of Model UN, she can be found playing tennis, watching Brooklyn 99, or hanging with friends. She is excited to see what delegates bring to UNEP 2035!

Elizabeth Kees is a sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill from Charlotte, NC. She’s a Business and Healthcare Administration major, and PPE minor. She started MUN in high school, with an interest in GA and Specialized committees. Outside of Model UN, she can be found attending sports events, or hanging out with friends!
