Welcome from the Secretary-General
On behalf of the Secretariat and Carolina International Relations Association (CIRA), it is with great pleasure and honor that I welcome you to the eleventh iteration of the University of North Carolina Model United Nations Conference. I am very excited to host you on the beautiful campus that I have called home the last four years.
On Thursday, November 7th, my Secretariat and I will greet you inside the Frank Porter Graham Student Union where you will check in with our Chargé d’Affaires. UNCMUNC XI will differ from our previous conferences this year in that it will be a four-day conference rather than a three-day conference, held from November 7th to 10th, 2019. My Secretariat and I have put together several new and different twists that will, hopefully, create an overall better conference experience for delegations and delegates of all levels.
Since 2008, UNCMUNC has strived to create dynamic and inventive crisis committees where delegates were able to grow, earn, and thrive, and this year is no exception. We have a fantastic array of committees carefully curated by the entire Secretariat and written by experienced Chairs and Crisis Directors. Dive into the past with the Jacobite Rebellion and rewrite history or enter the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to help rebuild the world after the Second Wizarding War. From historical, to modern, to fantasy, we hope that you find these committees riveting and engaging. Both new and experienced delegates have a place here, and we will strive to create the best possible experience for all attendees.
As I previously mentioned, I am very excited to have you all in Chapel Hill. This lovely town possesses a wonderful number of eateries, bars, and entertainment venues. We hope that you will stop by Franklin St. during your time in Chapel Hill and dine at any of the exquisite restaurants we have. My Secretariat has worked extremely hard to make sure that everyone attending our conference will experience a range of fun, from partying it up at Might as Well with us to attending a black-tie event at the lovely Rizzo Center. No expenses were spared to ensure that the socials are worth attending -- to die for even.
At UNCMUNC X, we introduced our first General Assembly for our collegiate conference. As it was highly successful, we will bring it back with the UN World Tourism Organization committee for UNCMUNC XI. We are thrilled to see the debate it yields.
All of us here at UNC are incredibly excited to welcome each and every one of you to our beautiful campus in the fall. We cannot wait to oversee your vigorous and insightful debates. Here’s to a weekend, and a conference, that will change your MUN experience!
