Voltaire’s Nightmare:

Dynamic Crisis

A NONTRADITIONAL (DYNAMIC) CRISIS COMMITTEE

ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE

The legacy of Rome, once tarnished and stained, has been claimed by the Frankish and Germanic peoples within Central Europe. Emperor of the Romans Charlemagne has been recognized by the Papacy as the sole legitimate inheritor of the Roman crown. As the new “Holy” Roman Empire navigates a dangerous world full of rivals and heathens alike, will Rome prosper once more?

UNCMUNC XVII’s signature Dynamic Crisis takes delegates through centuries of history within one of the most influential empires in global history, the Holy Roman Empire. Delegates will begin in the 9th century as Charlemagne’s grandchildren fight over their inheritance and scheme to once again reunite the Carolingian Empire. After a new Holy Roman Emperor has been crowned amongst the delegates, time will progress further to simulate other intense and impactful moments in Holy Roman and German history. Delegates will be able to represent multiple roles within this fascinating landscape to debate key issues such as expansion, Imperial legislature, religious conflicts, and the Empire’s role as defender of Christendom.

The famous French philosopher Voltaire once described the Holy Roman Empire as "Neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire.”

Let’s put that to the test, shall we?

Advanced Committee Statement:

This Dynamic Crisis Committee is designated as an advanced UNCMUNC committee, alongside the Ad-Hoc and 24-hour committees. Awards earned in these advanced committees will receive a 1.25 weighting in the calculation of delegation awards. Advanced committees feature more complex mechanics and are best suited for highly experienced delegates, who are strongly encouraged to apply.
