UNODC
Crime, Corruption, and the Digital Age
A DOUBLE-DELEGATE GENERAL ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE
ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE
According to the UNODC, bribery alone accounts for nearly $1 trillion annually, not including the trillions more that criminal networks funnel through corrupt financial systems each year. As globalization has connected economies and communities across the world, it has simultaneously provided transnational criminal networks with the infrastructure to thrive. Corruption slowly poisons governments from within, and digital platforms have opened new doors for the deviant and deranged to exploit the vulnerable, particularly the world's youth.
The international community has struggled to keep up with the ever-changing world of corruption, transnational organized crime, and youth vulnerability to drugs and perversion in the digital age. In this committee, nations will focus on issues at the center of corruption, including the very institutions that enable it in governments, criminal justice systems, and financial networks.
Delegates will be tasked with confronting the forces that facilitate transnational organized crime to flourish and the devastating human consequences they produce. These issues require innovative and creative solutions to prevent corruption and save the world’s most vulnerable populations.
