ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE

The summer of 2024 erupts into a battle of the beats– America’s major record companies enter a new era of music production and competition after the U.S. federal government rewrites antitrust laws. The now–void Sherman Act of 1890 provides a legal loophole in which record companies may compete for monopolistic control of the infamous American music industry. Each company wants full control of emerging talent and the latest hits. The top labels, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group, secretly negotiate sketchy deals with audio streaming and media service providers, like Spotify, to secure spots for their label’s top singers– while smaller independent record labels struggle to keep up. Many musicians find themselves tempted by hefty offers from bold label companies; however, these musicians need to decide where their loyalties lie and how far they would go for fame and monetary success in an industry where loyalty is a rare commodity.

Eileen Weng (she/her)

Eileen is a junior from Clayton, NC, studying Public Policy and Exercise and Sport Science (EXSS). She has been involved in Model UN since her sophomore year and has been a senior staff in UNCMUNC and a senior staffer in MUNCH. When Eileen is not writing a policy brief at the last minute or doing something Model UN related, you are more than likely to find her hanging out with friends, watching basketball, baseball, and/or football. She is also developing a love for volleyball, pickleball, and constantly trying to beat her NYT level-easy Sudoku (2 minutes and 5 seconds). Eileen is very excited to work on UNCMUNC XV and make it a memorable experience for everyone who attends!
