ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE

Liberty! Equality! Fraternity! These words echoed throughout the streets of Paris during a series of revolutions that struck France in response to the Ancien Regime that sent shockwaves across Europe. The French Revolution was a period of societal, economic, and political change with countless historical impacts. The committee will start the aftermath of the failed 1789 Estates General. Delegates will be tasked with collaboratively writing a new Republican constitution for France to change the government’s role in society while dealing with rebellious peasants, treasonous monarchs, and foreign invaders. The committee will then pivot to dealing with the fall of Robespierre and the end of the Reign of Terror in July of 1794. Delegates must work to bring France together to safeguard the revolution in the face of invasion and internal conflict. Historically, this led to the rise of Napoleon. Still, delegates will have an opportunity to have a democratic outcome through their responses. Now it is up to you delegates, Take Charge.

Paloma Fernandez (she/her)

Paloma is an international student from Mexico in her sophomore year. She is studying Political Science with minors in French and Data Science. Paloma’s interest in International Relations and Political Science was sparked by living in different places throughout her childhood, such as Mexico City, Belgium, and a small town in New Jersey. She is so excited to form a part of the collegiate circuit as a member of UNCMUNC’s Secretariat. Apart from MUN, Paloma enjoys crocheting, reading thrillers, and oat milk lattes (which in her opinion, can be best enjoyed at Epilogue on Franklin Street).
