ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE
The three greatest empires of 15th-century West Africa were born from immensely lucrative trade routes, exchanging their abundance of valuable gold, ivory, salt, scholarship, and (predominantly Islamic) piety. The longest-lasting was the Ghana Empire. The richest was the Mali Empire. The most powerful was the Songhai Empire. Each was born out of the one before, usurping the Niger River from its former regent.
In this Dynamic Crisis Committee, delegates will progress through centuries of history, representing allies and enemies of each empire. During periods of power transition, directive cycles will swiftly alternate between representing each competing empire’s side. The goal will not be to win against the invaders but to win against yourselves

Amanda Carvalho (She/Her)
Amanda Carvalho is a junior from Nairobi, Kenya, double-majoring in Mathematics and Business Administration. This conference will mark her 10th year as a MUN-er, her 2nd year on the Secretariat, and her 6th country to do MUN with. When she’s not making dramatic piano covers to cope with her latest math proof, you’ll find her smiling on a dance stage, acting, picnicking, beach-tripping with her friends, or stargazing at Morehead Planetarium. She adores spontaneity, new ideas, and- above all- meeting new people! Amanda can’t wait to learn all about chaos, creativity, and curiosity from this year’s delegates
